I’m a citizen of the Nansemond Indian Nation and the artist behind Blackwater Basketry. My work is rooted in the traditions of my ancestors. You can read more about my journey on my About the Artist page

Blackwater Basketry is my studio and brand where I create handwoven baskets, finger weaving, and pottery. The name honors the Blackwater River, a place shared by both my Nansemond and Nottoway ancestors in Tsenacommacah (Virginia). Through my work, I carry forward these traditions while sharing them in a modern world.

The Nansemond Indian Nation is an Indigenous community whose homelands are in Tsenacommacah, or present-day Virginia. Historically, the Nansemond lived along the Nansemond River and were part of the larger Algonquian-speaking tribes of the region. Today, the Nansemond Nation is a state- and federally recognized tribe, carrying forward our traditions, culture, and connection to the land.
